2007 Sportsman of the Year


The creeping sense of irrelevance must really put a damper on the writer’s meetings at Sports Illustrated. It can’t escape them that there was a time when SI was the vanguard of sports journalism, a worldly and literate publication which was the unquestioned home of not only some of the best sports writing in America but some of the best overall writing as well. There was a time when SI’s Sportsman of the Year was a prestigious and noteworthy award as well. However, the naming of Brett Favre as the 2007 Sportsman of the Year only serves to confirm SI’s heady, relevant times have long since passed.
